Hero. Legend. Good Bloke.
John Peel OBE, 1939 - 2004

Red Lick Records

Now here's an Internet book store, Red Dog Music Books,  for all you musicians:

Red Dog Music Books is an independent music company managed by Larry and Becky McCabe (husband and wife) in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of southern Appalachia. Their books focus on the good, non-commercial roots and heritage music that is played at festivals, in small clubs, and on front porches across the U.S.A. They specialize in innovative, high-quality books, superb customer service, and a direct-from-author discount.

Larry's credentials include an education degree from the University of Arizona, more than thirty years of music teaching experience, eighty published music books, columns for Living Blues Magazine and Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine, and authorship of the Roy Clark Fiddle Magic Method and Roy Clark Bluegrass Banjo Bible.

His music education includes correspondence study with the acclaimed Grove School of Music, Los Angeles; private guitar lessons from Western Swing great Eldon Shamblin; music theory lessons from renowned FAMU jazzmaster Lindsey Sarjeant; and additional study via correspondence with New York jazz guitar guru Alan DeMause.

Larry has played in many bands including blues, classic country, rockabilly, traditional Irish, and Cajun, and served on the prestigious W.C. Handy Blues Awards nominating committee for many years.

In the 1990s, he taught History of Jazz Music and History of Popular Music in America courses to adult education students at Florida State University. As an amateur WWII historian, Larry collected and edited 160 interviews for his book Pearl Harbor and the American Spirit.

Becky's background includes a Master's Degree in instructional systems design (Florida State University), and an extensive career in that field. Among her hobbies and special interests are art, photography, and music; she has played bass and guitar in blues, Irish, and Cajun bands. She designs many of the Red Dog Music Book covers.

Together they handle all the production duties for their original books, including concept, research, instructional design, computer engraving, recording and mastering, cover design, printing, and distribution.

Red Dog Music Books are created "one at a time," the old-fashioned way. In addition to their Red Dog books, they offer several popular books that Larry wrote for other music publishers.
