Mark Singleton, MC for
the weekend |
|
Musician Mark started
playing the drums around 12 years ago and now plays with blues/rock trio
Sidewinder, alongside Stage Manager Mike Dodd. His former
band The Answer opened the festival two years ago. Mark
began his comparing career at the festival's Battle of the Bands contests in 2006 and 2007. |

Local
six piece band The Evidence, who won the local battle of the
bands contest, opened the festival this year. Their set included
covers of modern material by bands, such as, The Killers and The
Zutons. The only blues related song in the set was Mustang
Sally. |

Sweden's only all woman blues band: Little Jenny,
vocals/harp/guitar - Mia Kempff, bass/vocals - Lotta Partapuoli,
guitar - Justina Lakin, drums.
The set
consisted of mostly original songs featuring the guitar of Lotta
Partapuoli and vocals and harmonica of Little Jenny. As stated
by the band most of the bands songs were about sex and food,
such as, I Ain’t No Left Over, Surgery Blues (about cosmetic
surgery), In My Head and Good Rocking Daddy. An original take on
playing drums was demonstrated with the drummer and bass player
playing drum solos on their ample bellies. Intriguing! |

Alvin
Youngblood Hart from the USA took to the stage and delivered a
high energy electric set mixing blues, reggae and rock as only
Alvin can. The set consisted of a mix of original songs
including Motivational Man and Fighting Hard and covers such as
Nobody’s Fault But Mine, Just Like a Woman (good slide solo) and
Skip James Illinois Blues with Little Jenny on harp. |

Chuck Berry, guitar and vocals - Darin
Ingrid Berry-Clay (Chuck's daughter), harmonica and vocals
- Charles Berry Junior (Chuck's son), guitar - James Marsala,
bass - Jean Michel Biger, drums
- Daniel T. Rossing, piano
Chuck and his band ran through a selection
of well known songs including; No Particular Place To Go, Sweet
Little Sixteen, Reeling and Rocking, You Never Can Tell. A
number of blues standards were also aired including Everyday I
Have The Blues, Rock Me Baby and Keys to the Highway. The one
song many of us were hoping that Chuck would not play was of
course included as an audience sing-along – My Ding A Ling.
However, it was good to see a legend of rock n roll in
Cumbria. |
