Maryport Bitter and Blues Festival 2005

The Convulsions are a
Punk Blues band originally based in Chicago when Ben Ruth, band founder,
brought with him from England the old concept of British Rhythm and Blues as a
sweat pouring, often blood letting, shaking manic musical experience, with roots
in bands such as the Yardbirds, Pretty Things, Animals, Big Three and even
lunatics like Screaming Lord Such, and combined the American influences of Blues
Magoo’s Wailers Sonics, Standells, Ramones, Iggy Pop et al. These bands shared
similar heroes in Little Richard, Howlin’ Wolf, James Brown and any number of
truly touched and demented kings and queens of iconoclastic riff based mayhem
from the US’s turbulent musical past. The band comprises a core of bass, drums,
guitar and harmonica. An explosive stage presence and a complete celebration of
booty shaking mayhem are provided by Ben Ruth: Vocals, Harmonica, Organ and Melodian, Michael Howard: Guitars and Vocals, David Beale: Bass and Vocals and
Phil Gibson: Drums and Vocals.
