Message from the organisers:

Yorkshire International Blues Festival Cancelled

A new Blues festival due to take place at Magna on Saturday 30th April for a 3 day period has been cancelled due to poor advance ticket sales and sponsorship.  The first year of the festival had received great PR and interest to the international line up but advance ticket sales were unfortunately too slow and the organisers had to make the difficult decision to cancel the event.

Event organisers said 'We had to make the decision as the financial implications of running the event without the support of advance ticket sales were too great.  The festivals core aim was to raise money for really deserving local and national charities so this decision was certainly not taken lightly. '

People who have purchased advance ticket to the event will be contacted and ticket money will be reimbursed in full.

"A brand new Blues Festival is coming to Yorkshire in May 2011! The Yorkshire Blues Festival will stage the Alexis Korner memorial stage as the main arena for the 3 day event – 30th April to 2nd May 2011. Alexis was known as ‘the father of British blues’ and his influence has spread to every area of modern British and world music.
The
Alexis Korner Stage will present many musicians who worked with him during his lifetime, such as Jack Bruce, Andy Fairweather Low, Animals & Friends, Spencer Davis and The Blues Band.
A second stage, The Yorkshire Stage, will feature blues rock and the modern generation of blues artists".

Start at 5pm Friday, 15th July
Ends at 11.00pm
Sunday, 17th July

With two main stages and nine pub venues - Upton's famous Blues Festival has taken a further step forward for 2011. Our three main stage headliners this year are Paul Lamb and the Kingsnakes (See interview),
Hokie Joint
(See interview) and The Stumble, some of the biggest names in British Blues. With seventeen performances on our two main stages - including Big Man Clayton, Simon 'Honeyboy' Hickling, Rattlin' Bone, Larry Miller, Toy Hearts, The Big Blues Tribe, and Gwyn Ashton (See interview), and a host of others
-  we'll take you from Blues Rock to Bluegrass, Country Blues to the Sounds of New Orleans in a broad and beautiful selection.

Once again ALL the 80+ performances are free entry in this festival which takes over the beautiful riverside town of Upton, so make sure you help pay for the festival by camping and parking in the official campsite and buying a programme or a T-shirt.

Camping £25ph for the whole weekend with great shower and toilet facilities (ask anyone who came in 2010 - but not 2009!).

Comments from MC Chris Powers:

Looking Forward To Colne 2011

It's a privilege to have been asked again to EMCEE the Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival during this year's August Bank Holiday. This is Festival number 22 and what a nice line up it is. For some of the "big" names it will be their "1st" appearance at this long running premier event.

Friday night, along with the other days, will see the "Muni" packed and Jack Bruce and the Norman Beaker Band are down to be the highlight - I've heard some of his recent stuff and it's a full sound with plenty of rhythm - may surprise a few people.

What will be the main highlights for me?? - welcoming gospel tinged Mavis Staples will be one. With her own band this should be better than good - I've seen them recently and they're red hot. The return of Big Mo and Jolly Jumper should be another highlight - it must be 5 or 6 years since they were last here. If you havn't seen them be prepared for some quality roots stuff with a twist - and finally the STAX legend Steve Cropper returns to kick off the final day - could this be a 1st - "House Full" in the Muni at 2.30 in the afternoon?

A word or two for the programmers and especially Alison Goode - this year's lineup has more of a Rhythm & Blues feel to its content - top stuff - can't wait. See you there.
