Here is the
UK
and European Blues Festivals Guide 2016,
including blues related workshops, exhibitions and lectures.
I'm waiting for details of some festivals throughout the year (shown as "2016
- TBA") so come back often for the latest list. Whilst I have taken every care to ensure details are
correct, please confirm dates with festival organisers - I have included contact
phone numbers, email addresses and website addresses. Please let me know
of any other UK or European blues festivals, workshops, exhibitions and lectures not listed here.
I regularly
update this list as I receive more details from festival organisers,
so
please check back often.
Thanks, Alan White.

Mahindra Blues
Festival
Mehboob Studio,
Mumbai
13th -
14th Feb 2016
Known
as Asia's largest and finest Blues phenomenon,
the Mahindra Blues Festival brings together some
of the best Blues musicians in the world for 2
days of guitar-rippin', soul-trippin' action at
the iconic Mehboob Studio in Mumbai.
Since
its inception in 2011, the Mahindra Blues
Festival has been instrumental in bringing down
international Blues legends like Buddy Guy, John
Lee Hooker Jr., Taj Mahal, and Walter Trout,
among others, to Mumbai - fuelling a burgeoning
interest in Blues music throughout the country.
MBF has also become a great platform for Indian
Blues bands to perform alongside the best Blues
musicians in the world. MBF was also nominated
in 2014 for the 'Keeping the Blues Alive' award
presented by the The Blues Foundation of
America.
In
2016, MBF returns in its sixth year, with a
fantastic line-up featuring the likes of Joss
Stone, Keb’Mo’, Malina Moye, King King and The
Heritage Blues Orchestra, along with home-grown
talent like Soulmate and the winners of The
Mahindra Blues Band Hunt 2016. |

The 5th Bowness Bay Blues Weekend 2016
18-20 MARCH 2016
TICKETS NOW ON SALE FOR
THE FIFTH BOWNESS BAY BLUES WEEKEND,
18-20 MARCH 2016
A brilliant
line-up of blues musicians in the heart of the
Lake District
With its beautiful
lakeside setting and well-chosen programme,
Bowness Bay Blues has built a reputation as one
of the most enjoyable music festivals in the
Northwest. The organisers have some very special
musical treats in store this year, including a
Twilight Blues Cruise and a brand-new pub trail
in Windermere (in addition to all the usual
venues in Bowness).
There will be
over 20 great acts to enjoy over the weekend,
with music ranging from top-notch acoustic blues
(from the likes of Al Hughes and Chris James) to
scintillating electric blues-rock from
outstanding performers like Paul Rose, John
Verity and Simon Honeyboy Hickling. Previous
festival fans will recognise some names, such as
Tommy Allen, Christian Sharpe, Dean Newton and
Tin Pan Alley, as well as local favourites, the
Elderly Brothers.
Others will be
new discoveries, including two of the most
talented young British blues bands around, Blue
Horizon and the Della Grants. South Quay,
featuring stunning vocalist Keri Farish, will be
making their Bowness debut. And local songstress
Fiona Hanlon is preparing a special tribute to
Billie Holiday, Etta James and other queens of
the blues, accompanied by guitarist Simon Wroe
and well-known bassist Rod Demick (of Paul Lamb
and the Kingsnakes).
One act that
deserves special mention is the incredible
Xander and the Peace Pirates, fronted by Keith
Xander, who was born without a right hand and
plays the guitar using a plectrum held in a
split metal hook. The Pirates have shared stages
with many big names, including Bon Jovi, Buddy
Guy and Joe Bonamassa. Now
signed to V2 Records, they have been recording
their eagerly awaited debut album in Amsterdam.
Look out for them on Friday 18th
March.
The Friday headliners, Trafficker, were the talk
of last year's Upton Blues Festival. Saturday
will be topped by Sean Webster and the
Deadlines, who have been taking Europe by storm.
And Sunday will finish with virtuoso
multi-instrumentalists Wille and the Bandits,
listed in Radio 1’s top ten must-see bands at
Glastonbury 2014.
It’s also good to know that
blues musicians share everyone’s concern about
the damage caused by the 2015 floods.
Cumbrian/Scottish band Redfish, who will be
appearing at Bowness, recently raised an amazing
£700 by playing gigs for Cumbrian Flood Relief.
Organised by the Rotary Club
of Windermere, the funds raised by this year's
festival will be going to several local
charities, including St Mary's Hospice,
Ulverston, and the Lake District Calvert Trust.
Tickets are great
value: only £55 for the full weekend, £15 for
Friday, £35 for Saturday and £25 for Sunday.

Burton Agnes

Click here for the full lineup
As always, bands overflow from the outdoor main
stage into the Great Hall, our shops and cafe
courtyard, and the late night sessions in our
bar tent. Delicious food is prepared by our
catering team, ranging from homemade burgers to
spicy curries, ice creams from our vintage ice
cream van, and bakes and cupcakes in our tea
tent. Local, award winning Wold Top beers will
be on tap, brewed just a few miles away and
delivered by brewer and jazz fan Tom Mellor, who
then picks up his guitar to play in the Hall.
There is camping in the beautiful surroundings
of the adjacent Park Field, with hot showers
laid on. The child in all of us is taken care of
by balloon artistry and face painting, and
highlights of Burton Agnes' grounds inlcude a
maze, giant games, jungle garden and woodland
walk with forest creatures to find.
"The whole experience was brilliant...the
combination of antiquity and youthful influence
from Simon and his family, protecting tradition
and heritage yet creating a relaxed and happy
atmosphere. We will be back again."
Festivalgoers Tom and Hildy Young.

translation:
My friends, volunteers, fans,
enthusiasts, lovers of blues and blue
friendliness, photographers, musicians,
politicians, sponsors, all who follow us for 15
years now, I announce that we end our exciting
adventure. There will be no 16th edition. The
reasons are many and are both rational or
irrational. Regarding the first, the ones I call
rational, there are 2 major: First, the site of
Villerupt, we don 'have more for administrative
reasons and normative requirements and then for
purely financial reasons . We can not find the
necessary budget to maintain comfort level
programming in line with our artistic line that
we developed throughout these 15 years. Facing a
terrible situation in Lorraine, several loyal
sponsors pulled out, risk-taking is too high and
it does not matter to become distressed and not
assume we know or it can lead ... We appeared
difficult 6 months to find a new site,
relocating and finding alternative funding.
On the irrational, it's often like that in an
old association, as in older couples, we ended
up not understanding and have divergent
interests. The serenity essential to the
organization of this event does is not and
quarrels people have been right the last forces
of important members of the association. I does
not say more because the goal is not to offend
anyone, the gift from all throughout these 15
years should make us ignore account of the small
settlements that do not interest many people. We
will build on this year off to reflect, rest and
perhaps regain energy and the forces necessary
for the rebirth of a new project.
Yes, it is sad and I thank all those, many who
I'm writing and call him, ask me to confirm or
deny such information or such rumor. I can not
explain at all why things in detail, it would
10am me daily, and I haven 'in no time.
As long as there is life, there is hope ...
then believe and hope! |

8th , 9th
and 10th
July is shaping up to be the best ever with even
more venues taking part and 45 top blues bands
booked to appear. There will also be a number of
busking musicians whose performances will make
the streets come alive with the sound of the
blues adding to the already vibrant atmosphere
generated by the festival.
Co founder Stewart Aitken
said ‘The Festival has grown incredibly. It’s
become much more than the “12 bars of blues” we
had first envisaged. This year we now have 16
different venues, all within walking distance of
each other and, as all the bands are generously
paid for by the venues, it means everyone can
enjoy quality live blues music for free! We’re
now in our fourth year and it’s amazing that in
such a short space of time we are now recognised
nationally as one of the top blues festivals on
the circuit!’

Friday 26th to Monday 29th August 2016
The beat goes on, but to a

changes to the usual format to give the Festival
a different feel. But although the feel of the
Festival may be different, there’s certainly no
change in the quality, as there will still be
