I regularly

as Asia's largest and finest Blues phenomenon,
the Mahindra Blues Festival brings together some
of the best Blues musicians in the world for 2
days of guitar-rippin', soul-trippin' action at

its inception in 2011, the Mahindra Blues

interest in Blues music throughout the country.
MBF has also become a great platform for Indian
Blues bands to perform alongside the best Blues

will be closed for business on 2nd January.
This is bad news for Boogaloo, blues fans and of
course the lovely management and staff at South
Downs Holiday Village. We are unable to find
another venue for the same time of year given
the short notice, but will be transferring the
event to Richardson’s sister site at Seacroft,
Hemsby, Great Yarmouth and the new agreed date
is
1st to 4thSeptember 2017.
We have tried as far as possible to book the
same bands (scroll down for details).

19th Big Wheel
Blues Festival 2017 Isle of
Man
This
year the Big Wheel Blues Festival will look a
little different, while retaining the mix of top
quality visiting artists, and a showcase for
local talent. The Festival has switched between
Douglas and Laxey for a variety of reasons over
recent years, and in 2017 we will have a foot in
both places. Instead of one long weekend, there
will be two events, the first being at the Villa
Marina on Saturday May 6th. There will be free
admission to a stage in the Gardens during the
afternoon, featuring local acoustic musicians,
followed by a ticketed gig in the Promenade
Suite at night. Then on Saturday September 9th
the Festival brings the blues to Laxey at the
Laxey Working Men's Institute, this time
featuring local electric bands in the afternoon,
with a ticketed gig at night.

joining us for the first time, bringing his
incredible lyrics and melodies spanning 40 years
of performing, alongside his magical dynamism to

From the home of Stones Throw Records, the cool
and elegant Rhythm and Blues star Nick
Waterhouse will be taking to the stage,
as well as the full throttle soul machine Barrence
Whitfield and The Savages.
Joining these incredible songsmiths will be some
outlaw country for a new generation straight out
of Texas, courtesy of Cale Tyson,
blisteringly hot blues from Ubeda in Spain,

Hanging Stars.

from it goes towards promoting live music in Wallingford and helping to
promote youth development projects in the town and surrounding areas.

Diggle Blues Festival 2017
Diggle
Saddleworth
Oldham
It’s nearly Diggle Blues Festival time again and
this year we have acts from all over the UK.
Howlin’ Mat from the North
East gives a solo acoustic performance featuring
his unique cigar box guitar.
From the West Midlands the Melvin Hancox Band gives
a new take on the blues with a dose of
psychedelia and humour.
Beetroot Jam and the Mighty
Revelators are both Manchester bands with
solid blues grounding.
Mississippi Malc are from
Huddersfield but their Delta blues sound comes
straight from the deep South (USA).
We have a Scottish representative in
Glaswegian, Mike Whellans, whose beatbox
and harmonica make his one man band both unique
and highly entertaining.
Liverpool is well known for great bands and Ramshackle carry
on this tradition with their driving blues
rhythms.
We are very pleased to have, once again,
Manchester’s own Franny Eubank, whose
heart beats the blues. He’ll be leading his band
with his truly authentic harmonica sound.
We often have bands from the USA (Uther Side
of Ashton), however, this time we have a
band from the USSR (Uther S-Side
of Rochdale), Littleborough’s finest , in
the form of Idol Frets who are all
excellent musicians and are guaranteed to
deliver a top class performance.
Ashton does have some great bands and you
shouldn’t miss Band of Gypsies who
deliver a fantastic Hendrix inspired
performance.
We really do have someone from the USA, Kent
DuChaine who comes from Georgia. He has a
direct connections to the original blues
innovators having played support and shared the
stage with blues giants including Buck White,
Johnny Shines, Albert Collins, John Lee Hooker
and Howlin’ Wolf.
The Festival is free, the weather can do what it
wants, just come along, show your support and
help keep music live.

Headline acts announced for Burton Agnes Jazz &
Blues Festival’s tenth anniversary.
The Burton Agnes Jazz & Blues Festival, which
celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2017, are
delighted to announce headlining performances
with swinging jazz from Claire Martin OBE
and Ray Gelato, and powerful blues from
Northern Ireland’s star, Kaz Hawkins.
‘They say that good things come in small
packages. This may be one of the summer's
smallest gatherings, but it's also one of the
most sophisticated...' Daily Mail
The festival is uniquely set in one of the UK’s
finest Elizabethan stately piles, Burton Agnes
Hall, home to the saxophone playing organiser,
Simon Cunliffe-Lister. Over twenty five bands
provide a weekend of jazz and blues on manicured
lawns, and in the ornately carved Great Hall.
Civilised camping with hot showers in the
adjacent park field, children’s entertainers,
and local ale and food inspired The Independent
to describe the Festival as ‘Possibly the
most enjoyable jazz concert I've ever attended’.
‘Now this is a proper music festival’ The
Times
One of The Daily Telegraph's best fifteen
festivals for the over 50s.
Claire Martin OBE & Ray Gelato, ‘A Swingin’
Affair’
‘Jazz Artistry’ The Observer
Join internationally renowned vocalist and BBC
Radio presenter, Claire Martin OBE, and

album ‘We’ve Got a World That Swings’, described
by The Observer as “Jazz Artistry”, these much
celebrated and respected artists take to the
stage to explore the Great American Songbook.
Alongside a world-class trio of musicians,
Claire and Ray revisit classics such as 'Let's
Call the Whole Thing Off', ‘They Can’t Take That
Away from Me’, 'They all Laughed' and 'Can’t We
Be Friends’. If you like your music sassy, sharp
and swinging, this is the show for you. A
swingin’ affair indeed!

Ireland’s very own blues and soul darling. One
of today’s most popular blues artists in the UK

and Janis Joplin, to name but a few. Her
powerful, deep, soulful voice combined with her
1950s swing dress and Dr Marten's boots creates
a unique performance not to be missed.

My friends, volunteers, fans,
enthusiasts, lovers of blues and blue
friendliness, photographers, musicians,
politicians, sponsors, all who follow us for 15
years now, I announce that we end our exciting
adventure. There will be no 16th edition. The
reasons are many and are both rational or
irrational. Regarding the first, the ones I call
rational, there are 2 major: First, the site of
Villerupt, we don 'have more for administrative
reasons and normative requirements and then for
purely financial reasons . We can not find the
necessary budget to maintain comfort level
programming in line with our artistic line that
we developed throughout these 15 years. Facing a
terrible situation in Lorraine, several loyal
sponsors pulled out, risk-taking is too high and
it does not matter to become distressed and not
assume we know or it can lead ... We appeared
difficult 6 months to find a new site,
relocating and finding alternative funding.
On the irrational, it's often like that in an
old association, as in older couples, we ended
up not understanding and have divergent
interests. The serenity essential to the
organization of this event does is not and
quarrels people have been right the last forces
of important members of the association. I does
not say more because the goal is not to offend
anyone, the gift from all throughout these 15
years should make us ignore account of the small
settlements that do not interest many people. We
will build on this year off to reflect, rest and
perhaps regain energy and the forces necessary
for the rebirth of a new project.
Yes, it is sad and I thank all those, many who
I'm writing and call him, ask me to confirm or
deny such information or such rumor. I can not
explain at all why things in detail, it would
10am me daily, and I haven 'in no time.
As long as there is life, there is hope ...
then believe and hope!

annual blues festival again takes over the town

Sunday 9th July 2017.

line-up of acts including the headline opening
gig in the Dereham Memorial Hall on Thursday

THE BLUES AND WHY DEREHAM?

social fabric of today's society and has given

we know today! Geographically smack in the
centre of Norfolk, Dereham is often referred to
as the 'Heart of Norfolk' and the Dereham Blues
Festival is all set to supply the 'Beat'!

top blues bands from all over the UK, sponsored
by the venues, festival goers can enjoy free
access to a truly wide range of styles delivered
by talented musicians. On offer will be a whole

Bank Holiday Weekend 2017
Friday 25th to Sunday 27th August 2017
After 27 years at the helm,
building Britain's biggest Blues festival,
Pendle Borough Council and Pendle Leisure Trust
have handed the reins over to Colne Town Council
to move the event forward.
This transfer brings both
challenges and opportunities as CTC are a
considerably smaller organisation, and this is
something that both the elected Council members
and the specialist team working on the event are
looking forward to with relish.
In most ways, the Great British
Rhythm & Blues Festival will remain true to the
model that has run for many years, but the more
eagle-eyed Blues fans will notice a subtle shift
to exclusively showcasing the very best
contemporary acts, staking our claim to the
title of Europe's premier and most relevant
Blues-based music event.
Both the line up announcement
and the launch of the ticket sales will be much
earlier than in previous years, hopefully on or
before 7th February.

2017 UKBLUES CHALLENGE TO BE HELD AT ICONIC LIVERPOOL VENUE
The UK Blues Federation (UKBlues) is thrilled to announce
that the 4th UKBlues Challenge will take place on Sunday
10th September 2017 at the world famous Cavern Club in
Liverpool.
The selection process to choose the bands/acts that will be
taking part in this year’s Challenge is currently underway
with a panel of more than 250 people from across the UK
blues spectrum having been invited to nominate three
bands/acts who they believe would best represent UK blues at
the International and European Blues Challenges in Norway
and Memphis in 2018. This stage of the process closes on
15th March 2017 and the four bands/acts amassing the most
points will be invited to take part in this year’s
Challenge.
In an exciting innovation, a fifth band will also be invited
to take part in the Challenge, their selection being
completely unrelated to the process currently underway. More
details in this respect will be announced in the near
future.
Jon Keats – Director of Music & Events at The Cavern Club
said: “We are delighted to be hosting this year’s UKBlues
Challenge here at the Cavern Club. Whilst people will always
associate the venue with The Beatles and Merseybeat era,
blues has also played a huge part in our history.
Many blues giants have played here including the likes of
Big Bill Broonzy, John Lee Hooker, Alexis Korner, Eric
Clapton, Sonny Boy Williamson, Bo Diddley…This is our 60th
Anniversary year and it’s great to welcome the blues back to
the Cavern!”
For UKBlues, Chair Ashwyn Smyth commented: ‘’ We are excited
to be bringing the UKBlues Challenge to Liverpool this year,
and especially so given that we will be staging it at such
an iconic venue. We have always made plain our desire to
ensure that the UKBlues Challenges are staged in different
parts of the UK as part of our commitment to blues
throughout the UK. We thank the management of the Cavern
for making this event possible and look forward to the 4th
UKBlues Challenge being bigger and even better than the
first three!’’
After the event was forced to move in 2014 the audience
was split in their preference of venues. Some liked the
hotel format with everything under one roof while others
preferred the purpose built venue with the location in
the centre of the city.
2017 has the best of both worlds. Whilst having the
Crown & Mitre situated in the centre of Carlisle as the
festival base the Friday session will be held at The
Venue, a short 5-10 minute walk away.
The Crown & Mitre is one of Carlisle’s finest hotels
which boasts a spectacular ballroom which will house the
main stage on Saturday, the second day of the festival.
