Saturday afternoon kicked off
with Virgil and the Accelerators
who were a last minute stand in on the main stage. This three piece band
delivered a set full of guitar led songs ranging from Stevie Ray Vaughan
– Scuttle Buttin’ and Couldn’t Stand the Weather, John Mayall’s
Bluesbreakers – Hideaway and Stepping Out through to Led Zeppelin – Moby
Dick. The encore was Johnny B Goode at breakneck pace, more akin to Jimi
Hendrix than Chuck Berry, which included behind the head guitar.
London based guitarist and
singer Marcus Bonfanti
and his band took to the stage and played a set of mostly originals with
Marcus mainly playing a resonator guitar in slide and standard fashion
and Fender Telecaster for a couple of numbers. The set consisted of
material from his current CD and included I Won’t Forget Your Name,
Going Down, Now I’m Gone, Devil Girl, Get Behind Me and Gimme Your Cash.
Covers included Muddy Waters - You’re Gonna Miss Me When I’m Dead and
Gone which included some tasty harp and Leave That Long Haired Country
Boy Alone.
Closing the Saturday
afternoon session was Paddy Milner & The
Big Sounds which included Marcus Bonfanti
and a number of the finest players from the London blues scene. The set
was heavily jazz and New Orleans influenced with effective soloing from
Paddy and the horn section. The set included a very jazz influenced
Rolling & Tumbling, Standing At The Edge Of The World, Gonna See My Baby
Yes I Am, Stuff You Gotta Watch and You Think You’re So Damn Funny. A
good end to the afternoon session. |
