House of Blues
by
Roger Dorey

House of Blues

Stairway to heaven

Is a Saturday night

Juke Joint in the attic

Where they do the music right

Every natural temptation

Is at the bar or on the floor

Shouting out in rhythm

Give me more! Give me more!

Now bless my soul

You gotta understand

I work hard all week

To be a God-fearing man

Sweet salvation

I just found the better way

So don't tell me Sunday morning

Will be the time to pay

You know you in trouble

When the devil is your best friend

You know you in trouble

When the devil is your best friend

Hard to leave the party

When the drinks

Are all on him

I am a born again

Who-do-the-voodoo child

Hypnotized, spiritualized

By Primal and The Wild

I am witness to no evil

Inside this House of Blues

Amongst the trials and tribulations

Of the saints who paid their dues

I see all good people

Come to spread their wings

Safe in sanctuary

In the temple of the Kings

So if Satan is a presence

And this dream be just a spell

I hope they got a House of Blues

When I go to hell

You know you in trouble

When the devil is your best friend

You know you in trouble

When the devil is your best friend

Hard to leave the party

When the drinks

Are all on him

Don't preach the Bible thump

Woe is Judgment day

Even Moses had his fun

It's just another way to pray

Fire & Brimstone

Is the drink that's in my hand

And I will walk on water

When I get to ten

I don't feel sin

I don't feel anything

'cept this halo in my head

And the need to dance and sing

Lawd do believe

Yes I do believe

Here comes the promise land

'cause an angel's calling me

You know you in trouble

When the devil is your best friend

You know you in trouble

When the devil is your best friend

Hard to leave the party

When the drinks

Are all on him

Its eternity

Till my spirit is free

When the drinks

Are all on him

A spoken word poem with a blues-based beat.
